Introduction

William Hill are one of the most popular and famous names in the UK for High Street betting. Being a big employer in the UK, William Hill have betting well covered online, on the phone and on the high street. Naturally with being such an established name, they have the experience to deliver everything a punter expects, and they are very customer friendly. William Hill is the leader in UK high street betting and are also one of Europe’s leaders in online betting. They have a huge advantage in possessing a name that people know and trust and William Hill have around 2,300 shops in the UK and Ireland (as well as owning two Greyhound stadia). William Hill are growing and have expanded to cater for more countries across the world after establishing themselves in 2008.





Betting Odds and Bet Management: 8/10

Great for finding competitive prices, especially on the horse racing and football markets. The odds are presented in the fractional format as default, but it’s easy to change if you want decimal. William Hill do present their odds very well, very clearly, and you hit a selection to add it to a very good betting slip. For your bet management, William Hill’s bet slip is one of the clearest to read of all online bookmakers. Each selection which gets added is highlighted clearly in green, and for each stake that you enter, you can see the estimated returns for each individual bet. Below the singles options, there is the Accumulators/Multiples section of the betting slip, which automatically sorts itself out into doubles, trebles etc. You simply uncheck a single selection if you want it taken out of the multiples, and then that selection turns blue so you know which are in the multiples and which aren’t. There’s also a nice Check Bet option at the bottom of the betting slip, just to make sure that you have gotten everything down correctly. For clarity, speed and ease of use, William Hill have developed a great betting slip.


Betting Markets: 8/10

No problems navigating through the wealth of betting markets that William Hill have available. Being such an established name in UK betting, they have the experience to deliver expertly covered betting markets. All of the sports book options sit at the top of the screen, unlike most online bookmakers which are driven by a left hand menu. This works OK, with the prime markets such as horse racing, football, tennis, greyhounds, cricket and the Virtual world take the top spots. Other markets then, such as boxing, rugby league, winter sports and more are listed alphabetically below. When you do click on a betting market, quickly loading below are any top markets for that sport, followed by a list of betting opportunities organised by competition. You can then go into a competition for more details, or there are quick links by the side of each competition to cut to the chase for things like outright winners for the competition. When you go into the big football betting market, you will see first the live in play betting options, and if you want to navigate further for ante post markets, then you need to browse around by tabs. There is usually a highlight section for the big matches, and one nice thing about William Hill, is that you can click on any match and add it to My Favourites, which will keep track of the time played and the score.


Live In Play Betting: 9/10

There is a feeling that William Hill have recognised the importance of Live In Play betting and have given it a lot of focus. Click on a sport in the sports book and the first thing you will see is any live action betting to be taken advantage of, for that sport. From there, you can quickly and easily navigate to other sports which are happening live at that moment, and a little banner tells you how many markets that William Hill currently have on live in-play betting. For their live betting, William Hill really do pack a lot of punch, with a tremendous amount of bets to explore on live action, and is very impressive. When you do open a specific live event, you have a nice little display, almost like a scoreboard with the important info regarding that event pop up, which looks great. To back up a pretty good live in play service, William Hill also stream live sports events, including football and horse racing.

Navigation is not as clear as perhaps it could be, that would be the only niggling little factor about an otherwise good looking website. Sometimes you have to do a lot of clicking to get to an ante post market, say if you want to get an early bet on the weekend’s football down. You have tabs, and then blocks to click on to get to where you want to go. Everything is clearly marked, so there’s no problem of not knowing where to go, just getting there can feel a little long winded at times (and of course we’re talking in second here, not minutes!). Other betting sites are just quicker to get deeper into, that’s all. As for the design of the website, it looks great, something you would expect from William Hill. There is more of a polished and professional feel about the website, without any pretentious graphics or self promotion. It is just straight down to business, and when content to take your time and browse markets on the betting site, you will notice that bets really are laid out very clearly. Would the site be better served by a left hand driven menu? Perhaps, because it’s a long way back to the top of the page to switch sports if you want to. But once you are in the sports book, it’s easy to get around. Sitting underneath the main sports book are the important links which you may need, such as the In-Play Schedule, Radio (which really is very good), Fantasy Football, News and of course promotions. There is also plenty to do outside of the sports book, such as Vegas, Games, Poker, Skill, Bingo and Virtual sports.


Customer Service: 8/10

It took a while to notice where the help link was on the website (it’s on the top right hand corner incidentally!). You go there and you can find a very long list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you out with your betting at William Hill. If you want to get a hold of them, then the Contact Us link will bring up an email form for you to fill out. To be honest, there is little else to go by for the Customer Service, such as phone numbers, or the hours of operation, which are not clearly or readily available.


Promotions and Free Bets: 9/10

You won’t see a lot of visibly active promotions on William Hill, but there are some there. In fact, even their welcome offer of a free £25 is not readily advertised by the online bookmaker, so you need to follow an exclusive link to get that. This doesn’t mean that they are not worth signing up with, they are, because there are good benefits which make up a bigger picture. For example, if you browse to the William Hill Match Winners section in the promotions link, then you will see plenty of enhanced odds for specific daily offers. This is wonderful for picking up just a little extra in your straight forward betting instead of worrying about meeting regulations for special event promotions. There are other nice ongoing features, such as the William Hilll fantasy football which dishes out cash prizes.

William Hill are a big name and they deliver a very comfortable professionalism. The website has a feel of being there for the seasoned punter, people who like to get straight down to business without all the flashy graphics and promotions that other bookmakers rely on. William Hill are a big name in UK betting and they have a huge reputation which keeps them strong. Therefore you will be joining a very trusted name, and that should give a lot of peace of mind for your betting. A more traditional betting forum really without the glitz and glam, and it feels like anything outside of the sports book really is incidental, because William Hill is what you use William Hill for, that is what they are known for, and that is what they are there for. There are nice touches around on the website, such as stats and media, but they are quietly there to enhance your experience, not take away any attention or focus from where you should be, like betting on live action.
