William Hill Chief Executive steps down from SPL role

The chief executive of William Hill, Ralph Topping has announced that he will be stepping down from his role at the Scottish Premier League. Topping joined the SPL back in October of 2008, taking on the role as independent chairman and became a key figure in the sponsorship drive of the organisation. At the end of the current 2012/13 season, Topping will leave his role in Scottish football in order to dedicate more time to his business affairs for Britain’s largest bookmaker William Hill.
Topping stated: “I have enjoyed my time chairing Scotland’s premier sporting competition.”Unfortunately, with the ongoing international expansion of William Hill, involving regular and substantial long-haul travel, I will be unable to devote sufficient time to the SPL over the next few years to do the role justice.
The resignation will leave Topping clear to dedicate and give 100% of his focus on William Hill. The betting site has already made big strides by breaking into the potential goldmine that is Nevada in the United States, as well as chasing a bigger share of the Australian online market by the proposed purchase of gaming operator Sportingbet.
The Scottish Premier League will start immediately the process of finding a successor to Topping.
