Bookies trim odds on Manchester United league success after fightback against VillaNovember 10th, 2012 / lee
The odds on Manchester United winning the Premier League title were cut to 10/11 by online betting site Ladbrokes, after the Red Devils staged yet another tremendous comeback. Trailing 2-0 away at Aston Villa on Saturday with 50 minutes of the match gone, Sir Alex Fergusons’ men looked as if they would blow precious points, having gone into the round of weekend fixtures with a one point advantage at the top of the pile over Chelsea.
However, Mexican striker Javier Hernandez stole the show, netting twice and with Villa’s Vlaar putting through his own net, United stoke away the three points. It was the fifth time that United had been involved in a 3-2 match this season and was the fifth time in the Premier League this term that they have rescued points from losing position. United have now tallied an incredible 15 points from losing positions this season in the EPL.
That has prompted the bookies to trim the odds a little on their chances of claiming back their Premier League crown, which they lost to rivals Man City last season. The move on Manchester United now means that reigning champions are a general 5/2 at Ladbrokes while Chelsea are back around 100/30. With United holding their place at the top of the league, bookies will know the familiar shape of the Premier League and will know that United will be hard to depose.
The only online betting site who were offering odds-against value on Manchester United winning the league after their comeback against Aston Villa was Boylesports, who were listing the Red Devils at a11/10.
