Bet365 sponsor Cambridge City FA Cup quest against MK DonsNovember 2nd, 2012 / lee
There is going to be a big focus on the FA Cup on Friday night as Cambridge City square up to the MK Dons in the First round of the tournament. Cambridge ply their trade in the Conference, where they are sitting just above the relegation zone with only four wins on the season. However, their FA Cup adventure continues after seeing off Billericay and AFC Totten in the qualifying rounds so far. The big coup for Cambridge here though is the one off shirt sponsorship deal they have secured from online betting site Bet365.
With the Cambridge v MK Dons FA Cup match being televised live, Bet365 have jumped on the opportunity to get their big brand into the match. The betting firm has agreed to sponsor some new shirts from the big match in a deal which should be worth thousands of pounds to Cambridge. The deal will see the Bet365 name on the shirts of the Cambridge players and the names of the players will be on the back of the shirts as well.
Money is all important for clubs like Cambridge and they will be hoping the home support and big occasion will get them through against League One side MK Dons. City already stand to raise over £60,000 from the match at the Pro-Edge stadium being covered live by North American sports network ESPN.
Pro-Edge, the main sponsors of the club and the shirt sponsor as well, does not cover the FA Cup with their shirt deal. So that has allowed betting site Bet365 to take advantage of the high profile game. Cambridge are heavy underdogs for the match, trading a 9/1 to grab the win, having kept just one clean sheet in fifteen matches this season.
“To secure the name of a company such as Bet365 for the match is fantastic,” said City chairman Kevin Satchell. “With the match being on television, clearly it has opened many sponsorship options that will be seen by a large audience, and we’re delighted that bet365 have seized the opportunity to do just that. “The money is greatly appreciated. Deals like this are really big for us.”
